About us

Summerfest Foundation, Inc.

In June 2011, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. formed the Summerfest Foundation, Inc., a 501 (c)(3) charitable corporation to support its initiatives, which include charitable and educational purposes, and providing a showcase for the performing arts. Each year, the Summerfest Foundation, Inc. produces various events and programs designed to raise awareness and funding, as well as other benefits for its mission and other charitable partners. Such events have included, the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Run and Big Gig Dress Rehearsal, in which both such events select charitable partners to share in the proceeds from each event. Other programs have included music education initiatives, such as Summerfest’s Big Band Camp, which provides a FREE day long hands-on educational experience and music clinics, as well as a newly developed Music Education Grants program, which helps provide funds for music educators for music programs.

Summerfest Jazz Education Day

The Summerfest Foundation created Summerfest Big Band Camp in 2013 as a FREE educational event for middle and high school music students, primarily from Southeastern Wisconsin. On an annual basis, 500 students and faculty participated in this special day of music clinics and performances at Henry Maier Festival Park, featuring nationally known jazz educators and performers. Clinics and performances are held at the BMO Harris Pavilion, Marcus Amphitheater stage and the covered South Pavilion. The event is FREE to all students/faculty who register and includes lunch and refreshments. The program also provides students with music instruction DVD’s, books and Summerfest tickets.

In 2016, in partnership with Hal Leonard and the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, the event was renamed to Summerfest Jazz Education Day and was held on September 21. Sponsors of the 2016 Jazz Education Day included Hal Leonard, The Conservatory of Music, I.A.T.S.E. Local 18, Clearwing Productions and Summerfest Foundation, Inc.
